Venture Capital in Canada – City of London Investment Group plc

City of London was formed in the early 1990s as a subsidiary of a stockbroking business, Olliff & Partners (O&P) which was founded in 1987 by City of London\'s Chief Executive, Barry Olliff. O&P was an agency stockbroker and corporate finance house specialising initially in the UK investment trust sector. During the late 1980s, O&P started broking the developing closed-end country fund arena. The focus was on London listed emerging market funds and a detailed database was developed covering this under-researched area. By 1991, the country fund and emerging markets activities had become O&P’s major focus, supported by a growing investor interest in emerging markets around the world. As a direct result, O&P became one of the leading brokers focusing on emerging markets closed-end funds. © City of London Investment Group plc
