Canada has been and continues to be a big part of BURGER KING® success. Due to the close proximity to the City of Detroit, Windsor and the spill of U.S. advertising into the market, Windsor, Ontario was chosen to become the first “Home of the Whopper” In Canada. The first Canadian BURGER KING® opened on Tecumseh Road in Windsor, Ontario in 1969 and the first franchised restaurant opened in Kingston in November 1976. They have grown today to over 345 BURGER KING® restaurants throughout every province of which 221 are franchised.
