Des Rice founded Weed Man® in 1970 in Toronto, Ontario. The private company began franchising in 1976 and has locations throughout Canada and the United States. A master licensee of Turf Management Systems Inc., Weed Man® has been franchising in the United States since 1996. Franchisees may start independent locations or convert existing operations into Weed Man® franchises. There are now more than 200 Weed Man franchise dealers providing professional horticultural services across Canada, the USA and in Australia. They provide a livelihood for more than 2500 people directly, plus many others employed in capacities related to the industry.
