Business description

this well respected and dynamic business was set up by the vendors in the early 1990’s and since then has established itself as one of the leading manufacturers and assemblers of their own brand of golf course equipment within the uk. The company manufactures and supplies a comprehensive range of products to meet pretty much all greenkeepers on-course requirements be it a simple hole cup or flagpin right through to specialist tools, signs, markers, litter bins and outdoor workwear. The complete range currently comprises some 250 product lines and this figure tends to grow year on year. All product is professionally displayed within the company’s own very impressive catalogues as well as via their fully interactive and informative e-commerce enabled websites. In addtion to this the company has invested in a “mobile showroom” so their own sales representative can take the products to the golf course for the various decision makers to see the company’s own products “in the flesh”. This is a very powerful sales tool and has proved a good investment to date. As part of its continuing expansion the company has more recently developed a seperate workwear division that operates on both a local basis via a trade counter and again via a fully interactive e-commece website. This division currently accounts for some 10% of turnover but represents a significant growth opportunity for a new owner. Because of the company’s wide product range it has developed very strong relationships with its customers. It can meet pretty much all of their on course equipment requirements and can provide bespoke solutions when necessary. Approximately 50% of current revenues come from sales direct with the many golf courses it serves, the other 50% coming from some 23 distributors who the company has appointed throughout the united kingdom. Equipment: the company has a good level of plant, tools and equipment to enable it to manufacture and assemble the quality products it supplies. This includes a comprehensive range of moulds, casings, castings and tooling that were developed and acquired at significant expense and are fully owned by the business. It also has a leased “mobile showroom” van that has been “kitted-out” with a range of the company’s many wares. The company utilises sage accounting software and also has two highly impressive and separate secure websites (one for workwear) that allows customers to purchase securely online. All such plant and equipment, office equipment, fixtures and fittings are included within the sale price. Customer service: the staff share the company’s ethos towards complete customer satisfaction and are dedicated to producing the best quality product and service to customers at all times. The company manufacturers to suit all requirements and budgets. The majority of products are produced ‘in house’ and this allows a great deal of flexibility in approach and speed of response when dealing with customers’ requirements. As part of this the company is a fully paid up member of the british and international golf greenkeepers association (bigga) so it is fully aware of the needs and requirements of its customers, both now and in the future. Key strengths: • own brands and wholly-owned designs ripe for future development • turnkey solution- in house manufacture and assembly • high service levels and speed of response • reputation • e-commerce capability-excellent websites and marketing literature • limited competition • workforce • large regular customer base with massive future potential (growth markets) • un patented technical know-how • global products growth and expansion: the company has a large production capability and could certainly accommodate a significant increase in business volumes within its current infrastructure. There are many avenues for growth available to this business. It currently operates nationally via distribution but direct sales are more regional due to logistics. More direct sales would certainly increase revenues and margins further, both within uk and export. The uk market is strong and the golf industry is growing with more and more courses being developed. The company has limited competition and is ideally placed to maximise this growth opportunity. Key opportunities: the workwear side of the business could easily be expanded as to date it has evolved as a side line from the company’s core business. A more strategic and proactive approach to sales and marketing would certainly increase revenues further as would more advertising and the ongoing development of the existing customer base. Export is another area to be addressed as the company is very competitive and has its own brand that is ripe for future development.
