Business description

this highly desirable business has been trading since 1956. It is one of the major companies in the uk wholesaling toys, stationery, haberdashery and household goods with the additional benefit of a broad range of seasonal prmotional toys and gifts. All the major occasions are catered for throughout the calendar year, including valentines day, mothers day, easter, simmer, fathers day back to school, early bird, halloween and christmas. Items for each event are displayed in patented, colour co-ordinated themed promotional stands that have proved to be extemely popular with retailers. The companies unique proposition is that by utilising their own showroom, buyers from large retail multiples can pre-plan, develop and control all their seasonal promotions and day to day ranges. This supply strategy has been key to the success of the group. Key strategic acquisitions and decisions were made in 1982 and 1985 when the group bought a local wholesaler of stationery and toys supplying independent retailers. They also had the additional benefit of having ‘cash and carry’ facilities. The operation then established and import division, manufacturing and sourcing good in the far east. They were able to use their purchasing power to drive down cost price and develop their own branding. All art and design work is carried out in house for the packaging and brochure work. This structure has enabled the business to add on a bulk supply company, which deals in carton quantities to wholesalers and direct depot facilities. Growth has been consistent and sales revenues are expected to exceed £17,000,000 in 2009. This has been achieved by focusing their attentions on the multiple retail market from small groups of 10 stores to national groups with 1200 stores. On average the company supplies over 4000 retail stores across the uk with full distribution cover. At peak periods this figure can increase to circa 6000 outlets. Customer service: customer service has always been a top priority for the directors . Clients are regularly invited to visit the business and spend time viewing the range of products being manufactured for the coming seasons, these are displayed in a large well lit, purpose built showroom providing a colourful backdrop for discussions. These meetings are also used as a sounding board for ideas and to take on board specific requirements for the larger buyers. Key strengths: • extremely well established and highly respected • financially sound with strong balance sheet • consistent growth • superb supply chains • exclusive brand name • large and broad ranging client base • innovative marketing • large premises • excellent staff key opportunities: • grow relationships with far east manufacturers • establish a national chain of retail outlets • maximise sales to existing clients • establish a strong internet presence
